QUADTRATIC FUNCTIONS.
(which was covered in Senior 2)
Factor:
x²- 5x + 6
(x-3)(x-2)
x² - 4x- 32
(x-8)(x+4)
2x²- 5x - 3
(2x+1)(x-3)
(!)NOTE: Reference_ x²+ ax + b
+ b.. Signs must be the same (x+_)(x+_) or (x-_)(x-_)
- b.. Signs must be different (x+_)(x-_)
Solve:
x² + 7x + 12 = 0
(x+3)(x+4) = 0
x=-3 x=-4
x² - 2x - 15 = 0
(x+3)(x-5) = 0
x=-3 x=5
2x² - 5x - 12 = 0
(2x+3)(x-4) = 0
x = 3/2 x=4
(!)NOTE: X value is determined by what makes the monomial 0 (zero)
e.g. (x+4) therefore x = -4
We then discussed PARABOLAS
e.g. x² + ax + b
- € R, is an element of Reals
ANATOMY OF PARABOLA
- We discovered 2 ways to report domain + range
- Infinity is represented as "∞"
Domain: (- ∞, ∞)
Range: [-1/4, ∞)
- Interval Notation
Domain: {x€R}
Range: {yy>-1/4, Y€R}
- Set Builder Notation
BENEATH IS REPRESENTATION OF A PARABOLA ON A GRAPH
L E G E N D
Vertex Point (h, k)
X Intercept aka Roots aka Zero
Y Intercept (Something a Parabola will ALWAYS have)
Homework Assignment: Exercise #1 (Numbers 1-14)
OKAY! So that was my first ever scribe.. and I have to say it wasn't that bad. Feel free to post comments I guess. Okay so scribe for Monday will be..... SAMUS. Have fun friend! =) =)

ReplyDeleteBeautiful work eeDce!
ReplyDeleteI really like the red notes about the important things to remember. You used colour really well throughout. The best, for me, was the picture and the way you used colour to describe different features of a parabola.
One line isn't clear though:
- is an elmement of Epsilon (Reals) aka €R
epsilon (€) means "is an element of," we would not say that something is an element of epsilon (€). The line should read:
- € R, is an elmement of the Reals
You've done really well. Feel free to go back and edit your scribe -- it's a very small, but important change.
Cheers!
Well done. A great first scribe. I like your use of colour to highlight the important points. Be sure to edit your post with the information Mr. K has told you about.
