Did you know?

In today's class we saw the movie: Did you know?

There was a lot of information packed into that 8 minutes. When I asked you to respond to what you had seen you were all very quiet. I know the first time I watched it I was a little overwhelmed and needed time to think about it. Actually, I watched it over again several times.

OK, you've had some time to think about it; now you can respond to it ...

  • What surprised you the most? Why was it surprising?

  • Did you learn anything? If so, what?

  • As you think about it now, does this change the way you think about school, learning or the purpose of getting an education? Is there anything you want to do differently related to school this year?

  • What Shift is happening?

  1. The Did You Know video was, to me, 8 minutes worth watching. I found the facts to be quite eye-opening and I found myself thinking 'Woah!' to some of the facts. In that video, I learned quite a lot of things. This does change the way I think about school and learning. Since shift happens, I guess the way students learn and accept things, progressively change, too.

    I'm first! :D

  2. The video was interesting. It did overwhelm me while we were watching it, but near the end, it scared me. It made me feel as if I was not smart enough compared to other people from different countries. I know that our technology is progressing fast, but not that fast. Honestly, it scares me that there will be (in the near future) a computer that could be as smart as the human race! At the end, I was happy that we had a class discussion about the video and what we can do to keep up and move forward with learning. I learned so much from that 8 minute movie than I would anywhere else, not technically true and I may be over exaggerating, but like Mr. said, "this 8 minute movie means a lot to me."

  4. The video, as you guys said was interesting. I really liked it.
The thing that was so interesting is that --east India has got more honour students than we have students here--- Then I was like hmmmm....there's a compitition going on then. I better be as good as those honour students, or else they will probably take over the jobs in the future. ..

  5. That Eight Minute minute video, Did You Know was truly a slap in the face way to start our grade 11 precal course. When I say slap in face, I don't techinaclly consider it a negative thing. Most of us in the world need to be aware of the bruital facts of the future and that 8 minute video disabled us in a way to stop the denial. However, I do believe some of us in the class were not aware of what our future can look like. Seconds after the completion of the video, I recall myself saying "I felt like I just died" and in ironic way if you think about it, our careers and dreams of the future can die if we don't continue to do something. I'm an individual that has a lot of dreams for my own personal life and I'm determined to work as hard as needed to accomplish them. This video just proved it's not going to be easy, its going to incredibly hard. School is important, the world has been pushing that fact in our face but what is even more important is the way you look at learning. Our way of learning is the path to our dreams and our careers.

  6. The video was really interesting because of all the predictions of what the schools and technology will be like in the future and if you really think about it that quite a lot for a short period of time.

  7. Remember the saying "the sky is your limit"? Well IGNORE IT. I say this because a person has no limits. Just because another country has more honour students then us it does not mean that they are going to "invade" our work, therefore thers no need for any fear, all you need to do is focus on what and how your learning and you will be ok.
